2017 Cruise – A Success!

Thanks to everyone who made the 2017 cruise a huge success!

We sincerely hope everyone made it home safely and without incident.  We recognize the time, money and efforts that went into getting to and leaving Fort Lauderdale and we love and appreciate your faith in us to host a great event.

Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for helping to make the 5th Ever Captains of the Deal Cruise an absolute blast! We made new friends, shared some war stories, played in the pool and ate and ate and ate together!  The Freedom of the Seas ship was beautiful and it made us smile to see everyone enjoying themselves.  And with so many Jack Miller folks on board, it felt like a reunion!  We’d walk down the promenade and see a group of you sitting in the coffee shop, pizza place or bar and we knew there had to be some funny stories and serious deal-structuring going on!  We saw you cheering on the Falcons (and that other team) during the Super Bowl.  We heard you in the theater laughing and enjoying the comedy show.   We saw you dancing in the Star lounge – there were some crazy dance moves in our circle – Mike’s gator, Glen’s floor spin, and Dorsie & Jimmy’s reeling in a fish move.  We witnessed the dedicated hard-bodies working out in the gym, saw the ‘chillers’ chilling in the hot tub and were blinded by all the lilly-white legs catching some caribbean rays out by the pool.  Mike, Fabian, and Jimmy conquered the FlowRider and didn’t lose their bathing suits!  Bummer.  And we witnessed several of you wobbling like wet noodles after getting a spa treatment – some of who went back for seconds and thirds – but don’t worry, Margaret and Jeanne, I won’t mention any names.  Y’all were having a great time!  Oh, and we learned a new word thanks to Paula……Chillaxing!

The ports were awesome – Labadee beaches, San Juan forts, Philipsburg diving, and the St. Kitts catamaran tours (which will be remembered and laughed about for years!).  Pete totally scored…..he accidentally left his short-sleeve shirts on his kitchen table at home and then threatened to cut the sleeves off of his long-sleeve shirts, so Paula, Sheron & Kim hooked him up with a shirt or two from each port.  How he got everything packed in his little suitcase, we’ll never know!

And ah…..the Conference!  Great information from Dyches, Pete, Bill and Dorsie, with terrific questions and input from everyone in the room.  The Ted Talks from David, Jeff & John were informative and interesting – thank you so much, guys!  Your brilliant brains amaze us!  The 8pm Town Hall segments were full of laughter and great information, and Thursday night’s Exchanger Event will go down in history as the craziest, most fun event ever!  I just want to know who ended up with the Fertility God?  It was last seen in Pete’s hands, but I think he was doing his best to exchange out of it!  The 5:30 dinners had 20 tables filled with our chatty, noisy group, and the conversations were fun and free-flowing.  Everyone got a chance to sit where (and with whom) they wanted – which really confused the waitstaff, but we all enjoyed immensely!  And though we had some challenges finding a quiet place for the 10pm ‘Lido’ Deck gathering, we certainly had some lively and interesting topics every night, didn’t we?  Pete acquired a new nickname……The Animal!  When everyone’s brains finally melted at 3am, Pete would say, “What’s the hurry?  Where is everyone going?”  OMG!

We had such a good time and we hope you didtoo.  All of us – Dyches, Debbie, Bill, Kim, Pete, Dorsie & Jimmy – appreciate you so much.  A special thanks to Paula and Tonya for helping us during check-in.  You ladies rock!  Thank you all for being a part of something so special and for making this a fabulous trip.  Y’all are an amazing group of sharing and caring people and we thoroughly enjoyed your company.  We look forward to seeing you all on another Captains of the Deal Cruise!

2017 Cruise Countdown Begins!

We are less than THREE months away from cruising away on board Royal Caribbean’s beautiful Freedom of the Seas to the sunny destinations of Labadee, San Juan, Philipsburg, and Basseterre!

Haven’t signed up yet but thinking about it? …Better do it now! Our room block –and the rest of the ship– is filling up fast! We only have select cabins available and Janis has also informed us that the entire ship is booking quick, which means that once our room block is gone, so will the good rates. Don’t delay!

Not sure yet if you can make it? … We, too, are real estate investors and we understand sometimes it is hard to commit to a week away, in the beautiful sunshine, to gorgeous destinations, on board with 120+ other real estate investors, with whom you will network and spend countless hours celebrating your successes for the past year and recouping before another successful year, relaxing, learning, eating all-you-can eat delicious food, enjoying all the luxurious facilities on board an amazing cruise ship, etc. etc. Yes, it’s a hard life we live!

Woo hoo! You’re all signed up! Now what? …It might be too soon to start packing, but it’s definitely time to start thinking about travel arrangements to Fort Lauderdale where we will be boarding the ship on Saturday, Feb. 4th, and departing on Sunday, Feb. 12th.

We recommend planning your travels to allow you to arrive at the port around 11am to noon.  The ship will be serving lunch to those who board the ship early, and this is an excellent time to leisurely board and explore the ship before all the fun begins. Your Captains of the Deal Crew Members will also be hosting a welcome table in the early afternoon for you to pick up your materials and meet other guests.

  • Flying:

Royal Caribbean offers a bus service of its own (called transfers) to bring you to the port from Fort Lauderdale Airport as well as Miami International Airport. If flying in the day of boarding, make sure to book a flight that is scheduled to land early enough in the morning to travel from the airport to the port without being too rushed. Or better yet- plan to come in on Friday and meet some of your fellow cruisers ahead of time! See the hotel section below for more information. Our travel agent, Janis, can also help you make arrangements from the airport to the ship.

  • Driving:

If you plan on driving, you may want to consider the deal that Kim has secured for our group at a local hotel that bundles cruise parking along with a room stay the night before boarding.  Let Kim know if you plan on arriving in Fort Lauderdale on Friday– Bill & Kim always meet up other Captains cruisers the night before to kick off the festivities!

If you choose not to stay in Fort Lauderdale the night before, or choose to drive directly to the port, you will need to pay for parking outside the terminal. Rates are $15 USD per day for the regular vehicles and $19 for the oversized vehicles (rates subject to change without notice by the Port Authority). For additional information or vehicle size restrictions, please contact USA Parking at (954)468-3680.

Port Everglades: If you are driving in, the address is 1850 Eller Drive, Ft. Lauderdale. If you want to park at Port Everglades, then the closest parking garage will probably be the Midport Garage, 2020 Eller Drive. Terminal number will be posted closer to sail date. ***Off load your luggage at the terminal first, then go park. Take the free shuttle bus back to terminal. Ship schedules and terminals are subject to change, so make sure to check your travel documents prior to leaving to confirm our terminal. Parking is $15/day at the terminal. If you are staying at the Rodeway Inn & Suites, you can leave your car there and take the shuttle over. Save some money! Port Everglades phone number: 954 523-3404.

  • Hotel:
Captains of the Deal has secured a room block at the Rodeway Inn & Suites in Fort Lauderdale on February 3rd, 2017 for $155/night.  The reviews give this hotel a 3.5 star rating, and the pictures on HotelFTLauderdale.net and on TripAdvisor.com show this to be a beautiful hotel.  Hotels near the airport & cruise port vary in price from $180+ and fill up fast during the winter season, so we’re blessed to have secured rooms at a rate of $155/night.  Additional pre and post cruise dates are available at our group rate, if needed.
Free Shuttle to/from airport & cruise port
Free Continental Breakfast
Free WiFi
Free Parking
Within walking distance to restaurants (Friday night pre-cruise dinner anyone?)
We strongly encourage you to make your hotel reservations as quickly as possible, either at the Rodeway or somewhere, since February is peak travel time for the Fort Lauderdale area.
Rodeway Inn & Suites
2440 West State Road 84 (Marina Mile Blvd)
Fort Lauderdale, FL  33312
$155/night – Captains of the Deal Group Block
If you have problems, please contact Kim Cook 770 815-8728
Pre-Cruise Dinner Friday Night: If you’ve cruised with us before, then you know we usually meet for a pre-boarding dinner on Friday night. The Marina 84 Sports Bar & Grill is right next door to the Rodeway Inn, so no need for a hotel van to haul all of us around.

** NEW Passport info: Got Your Passport? We don’t want to leave anyone on the dock, so please make sure your paperwork – cruise docs, passport, etc. are complete and up to date. Dyches sent some good info on the new passport rules – one of which is NO glasses on new or renewed passports after November 1st, 2016. Check out this website for details: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/news/no-glasses.html

The 2017 Cruise is already shaping out to be our biggest and best cruise yet! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you all on our FIFTH Anniversary Captains of the Deal Conference Fun Cruise!

4th Annual Thank You

Thank You for Making our 4th Annual Cruise the BEST Captains of the Deal Cruise Yet!

We sincerely hope everyone made it home safely and without incident.  We came home in flip flops to 38 degree weather and, with frozen toes, unpacked the car in record time!  Those crazy Wisconsin folks however, were blasted with 22 degree weather when they stepped off the plane.  Don’t ‘cha know they were missing the sunny Caribbean skies!  Speaking of which, the Caribbean skies weren’t all that sunny during our week on the boat, but our group made the best of it anyway.

Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for helping to make the 4th Ever Captains of the Deal Cruise an absolute blast!  We made new friends, shared some war stories, sat around the pool, hollered for our favorite players during the Super Bowl, and ate and ate and ate together!  It made us smile to see everyone enjoying themselves.  We saw you soaking in the hot tub, working out in the gym, and trying out Carnival’s colorful umbrella drinks.  But most of all, we saw you huddled around the ice cream machine on the Lido Deck yakking away.  On Friday night we could hear the roar of your laughter and conversations before the glass doors even opened! Y’all were having a great time and it did our hearts good to witness!

We’re so glad y’all had a great cruise.  The weather wasn’t the best, but we still took advantage of what little sun there was in Cozumel.  Some of us copped a spot on the beach, while others went shopping.  We saw some beautiful silver jewelry and new boots walking back on board, so we know you were utilizing your negotiating skills!

Fat Tuesday in Belize was chilly, but colorful.  Some of you bellied up to the bar, while others got sunburned swimming with the sharks and stingrays.  Derek won the sunburned face contest!  Check out the pictures on Captains of the Deal Facebook page.  It was so cool swimming among the sharks!  Thanks Debbie Boddiford for planning such a great excursion.

It rained in Roatan, but the bars didn’t suffer.  You people know how to have a good time and we’ve got the pictures to prove it!  And Costa Maya was the place to get a deal if you were into shopping.  My (Kim’s) fedora hat dropped from $35 to $15 in less than a minute and I never said a word.  Easiest deal I’ve negotiated in a while.

And ah…..the Seminar!  Great information from Pete, Dyches and Bill.  Thanks so much for the terrific questions and input from everyone in the room.  And a special thanks to Dorsie, Jeff, John & Mary for their informative ‘Ted’ Talks.  Lunch time turned into ‘Lido’ time around the adult pool, with Pete holding court.  I think he had more fun than anyone on the boat!  Dinner conversations were loud and filled with laughter, and everyone got a chance to sit where (and with whom) they wanted.  We sat next to a couple who paid for their wedding with the proceeds from bull semen.  I kid you not.  850 people attended.  I won’t mention any names, but their initials are Tracy & Derek.  You just never know what crazy dinner conversations you’ll overhear with this group…..especially when the Wisconsin folks are on board!  And our 8:30 ‘Lido’ just rolled right into the Ice Cream Social on the real Lido Deck with some of you die-hards staying until 2am!  We certainly had some lively and interesting topics every night, didn’t we?

Thanks to all who participated in our first Captains Exchanger’s Event.  It got a little loud and confusing, but the laughter far outweighed the frustration of trying to keep up with everything on the board.  The hot items of the night were Naomi’s CEO,000,000 hoodie, Dyches’ consult time, Pete’s cassettes, Brad & Cindy’s exceptional bottle of wine, and Jonathan’s fishing trip.  I think half the boat is headed to the Simmon’s Hill in Kentucky to drink wine (been there, great place), and Jonathan is going to have to trade in his Patrick-propelled canoe for a houseboat in order to hold all the crazy fishermen who wormed their way into that deal!  I’ve not laughed that hard in a long time!

We had such a good time, and we hope you did too.  If you took pictures of yourselves or each other and would like to share, please post to our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/CaptainsoftheDeal/

Hope to see everyone again on board for our 5th Annual Cruise in 2017!
